Perfect Eye Shadow for the Perfect Eye

Makeup is an amazing finishing touch for any style that you’re sporting that day. It may give you confidence or it might just be fun. I remember someone who said that you should never leave the house without one thing, I immediately thought “Mascara!” but I was wrong. She actually meant “Eyebrows!” The reason being is that eyebrows hold all expressions, without eyebrows you are expressionless. It actually makes a lot of sense, so if anything at least do your eyebrows before grocery shopping. However that is not usually the one people struggle with most. The two makeup sections that I get most questions about are the contouring and eye shadow. I have already covered contouring in my Makeup Part 1 blog post and I covered some of the eye shadow techniques in my Makeup Part 3 blog post. I would like to cover many more techniques that I have for different types of eyes in this post

This is the key that you will want to follow throughout the instructions.

I am going to start with tips on small eyes. My sister has the smallest eyes, feet, and hands and everything. She literally buys her shoes in the kid section, which works out since they’re cheaper. Anyway, below I have my own personal notes on small eyes.

The sides of the eyes are each dark, as shown with the scribbles on the left eye. Then in the middle you will want to put a light colored eye shadow. Then at the very edges of each eye should contain no makeup at all or a lighter colored makeup, preferably white or peach pencil. The rest of the eyeliner should be a lighter color as well, such as a warm brown with a gold sparkle. Then you’re done.

For eyes that are too large, you will want to make the outer sides of your eyebrows a lighter shade. Check out the photo below to reference. For the eye shadow you will want to stick to dark colors and avoid anything light or frosty. It’s a great opportunity to do a darker smoky eye.

The next thing I want to cover is droopy eyes, I actually have droopy eyes myself. The photo below shows that there is not much to it but it will make a huge difference. You will want the inner side of the eyebrow to be darker. Then create a winged tip with your eyeliner.

For a winged eyeliner you will want to grab a stick, whether that is another makeup brush or a popsicle stick, really just anything that is straight. Put one end at the side of your nose and the other side at the edge of your eye and leave about an inch that is going past the eye…similar to the photo below. Then use the line to apply a perfect eyeliner wing. You can make it larger than that small line if you prefer. Then that’s it.

For a very deep set eye there are quite a few steps that you will want to take. You will want to use a Medium colored eye shadow on the entire brow, the only place that you will want to use something other than a medium color is along the crease. Apply a light color all along the crease and make sure to blend it. This will bring out the deep set eyes and make them pop. But don’t let the color be too frosty. Use a color that will compliment the medium dark color. Then take a lighter color along the lashes on the top and the bottom. Then you’re set

The last one that I want to talk about are eyes without a crease. Apply dark coloring on the inside and outside of the eyes. Grab a new brush and then rub back and forth to blend it in. It should end up being lighter in the middle. And there you have it.

Bonus Tip: I personally love the color I use on my eyes to pop, not to mention last all day. To do this you will want to get a crème that will act as a primer. The crème can be white or skin toned. Then just place the makeup on top. Another way to make it pop is to use a crème color that is the same as your eye shadow. For instance if you are going to use blue eye shadow then use a blue crème first,  but be careful because it is going to pop like crazy, but it’s a wonderful kind of crazy. My favorite crème pallet is from Sephora. It has all of the perfect colors and is just amazing, all except for the cost, it is $99. Instead I use crème’s from a costume shop. One that I used in particular was Ben Nye’s costume makeup which was about a dollar per crème that I got. That was 5 years ago though, plus the shop has closed which creates the need to go online where the prices are very different. Whatever the price is now, it will be worth it. I haven’t even used half of the crème in 5 years. Great makeup! Don’t shy away because it’s called costume makeup. I know a professional artist who actually had to use the color from skittles to use as makeup on models for a photo shoot because they lost the makeup. Pretty crazy but it worked out.

In the end just have fun with it. Go with the flow and make your own creations. You can even just put a very light color on your lid with a lighter color above that. The key is to blend it in. Please, please, please blend it in. The only area that I believe is okay to go without blending are the outside edges where the eye shadow ends when it hits the base makeup. That can actually create a very nice dramatic effect. Don’t forget to put on mascara!

I hope you found this helpful!
