Makeup Part 3

Now your face is completely set up for the fun part. Some people do choose to put this part first so the eye makeup doesn’t mess up their face. I personally choose to have it as the last step because I don’t want to worry about ruining the eye makeup once I got it down. It’s much easier to fix base makeup than it is to fix eye makeup.

The hard thing about eye makeup mainly is not knowing where to start, or maybe because you don’t wear eye shadow often and no matter how good it is, it may look weird. Typically it always looks weird until you put on eyeliner and/ or mascara.

The key points with makeup:
-do not drag dark makeup all the way up to the eyebrow
-start with neutral colors until you are comfortable doing makeup
-look at YouTube videos to help you through the basic steps

I’m going to show you a couple of tricks that you can use while doing your makeup.

These are my notes from a class I took in beauty school that is amazingly easy to follow. I will be discussing two of these in depth, wide eyes and narrow eyes.

Follow this key

I will start with narrow eyes

You will want to put light colors on the outside to make them look larger, putting a somewhat darker color on the inside diminishes the look of the eyes being to close. Get an even darker color to put in the middle and blend in. Leave just a small amount open near the eye brow to put a very light color to blend in with the rest. Do not put on thick eyeliner; make sure to make the liner thinner as you get closer to the outside edge. The purpose is to make the outer edge look brighter and bigger which will make the eyes look less narrow.

Wide eyes

Now I messed up on my notes here so it’s best to follow my written directions. You basically want to do the exact opposite than the narrow eyes, put the light color on the inside, medium in the middle and dark color on the outside. Then blend the dark color in towards the inner eye. Keep a small spot just below the eyebrow to place a light color down and blend in with the rest of the colors. A nice winged eyeliner is perfect for wide eyes because you want it dark on the outside. Do not put any eyeliner on the inside of your eye, and there you have it!

Bonus tip: for a winged eyeliner you will want to grab a stick, whether that is another makeup brush or a popsicle stick, really anything straight. Put one end at the side of your nose and the other side at the edge of your eye and leave about an inch that is going past the eye…similar to the photo below. Then use the line to apply a perfect eyeliner wing.

Makeup Part 2

If you haven’t read part one yet then please read part one before continuing.

Once you have done everything in part one then we can continue with these finishing steps. When you use any liquid or crème, you really want to put powder over it to lock it in. At this point you have put on your base makeup and set it I with powder and have also done contouring. You will not want to put the same color powder over your contouring. I continue putting a darker powder than my face color over the shaded areas and I put the same, or lighter, color of powder over the highlighted areas. This continues the dramatic effect and avoids covering up your contouring work.

Now you don’t need the blush, however I am a huge fan of the blush part. Don’t have it too bright, in fact this is another great chance to go to Sephora and let the girls doll you up. Keep in mind, these women are not professionals so don’t be afraid to say that you don’t like what they are doing. Once you find a color pull a fishy face and apply it along your cheek bone. Now this can be a little difficult to explain without being able to show it to you, so I found the following photos to help.

The first one shows you the best way to apply it based on your face shape. I found the photo here.

The second picture is how I personally prefer to put on my blush. Putting the blush up near the side of your eyes really makes them pop. I found the photo here.

This last photo is a bonus photo. It works best on ladies 40 and older. I still do it sometimes but it won’t make much of a difference yet. Putting the blush in the area circled makes it look as though you have had a face lift. It’s a huge difference. I found this photo in my phone, so please excuse the silly editing.

Makeup Part 1

For awhile now I have been talking about getting into makeup as well. I believe I have shared enough on hair to be able to start expanding to makeup.

A huge part of makeup is knowing your face shape. I personally have a difficult time deciphering face shapes. Sometimes a face can have a bit of two different face shapes. In the end, you know your face best and go with your gut. If you still have no idea, then ask a friend.

Once you know your face shape then it’s time to get started. Find a good base makeup, the best way to find your shade is to get your make-up done complimentary of Sephora. They will give you a good match and you can either buy it from them or you can grab your match from Sephora and buy it from Walgreens. I personally buy mine from Mary Kay because it’s a goof price and lasts longer than any other base makeup that I have tried. It’s also in a container that I can cut open towards the end and get every last drop. Other places like to put it into glass containers which can be wasteful.

Now to the contouring. This can be a little confusing, but it all comes down to making your face look more oval. Oval is currently the face to have. If that fails then simply resort to bringing out the features that you like and diminish the features you don’t like. Below is a photo that you can follow. The X’s are where you shade and the scribbled areas or the lines are where you lighten up.

Place lines in these areas and just lightly blend in until you get the desired look. I hope you found this helpful!
